Richard's Story
Founder and developer of My Camp Kitchen™
When I was a boy, my family did not camp. When I was 12, I joined the Boy Scouts and that’s where my life long love of camping began. I liked all of it, especially cooking beef stew and dumplings in a coffee can. In my twenties, I had the good fortune of marrying a gal who was raised camping; born to German immigrant parents, camping was an affordable family vacation.
Together, we raised five children all of whom began camping while still in diapers. When the kids were very young, we drove a Ford Falcon, a very small two door. Out of necessity, the camp kitchen was born. I built our first camp kitchen in the early nineteen sixties out in the garage. It was my first attempt (and a successful one) to make camping easy and organized. It was built to fit on the top of our Ford Falcon, the car being the stand. I have spent the past fifty years improving the design.
Over the past five decades, our family has used one version of My Camp Kitchen™ or another, be it on canoe trips, car camping, and most recently RV’ing. The My Camp Kitchen™ of today has taken what’s best of all the past versions so that we can offer you a compact, organized and practical addition to your camping gear and camping ritual.
We build them with pride and with the commitment that they will last the test of time so they can be an integral part of your many years of camping memories. Just like the bristlecone pine tree (the oldest living tree), you’re My Camp Kitchen™ will endure as a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
